From Malaya Business Insight (Apr 16): Pregnant NPA member wounded, arrested
A PREGNANT member of the New People’s Army was wounded and subsequently apprehended by government forces after a firefight in Impasugong town, Bukidnon on Saturday, the military reported yesterday.
Susan Cabusao Guaynon, 22, who is five months pregnant, “was abandoned by her comrades during the 20-minute firefight after incurring a wound in the forehead,” said 1Lt. Tere Ingente, spokeswoman of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro City.
Ingente said the injury was minor and Guaynon is in stable condition.
Troops from the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion were on security operation when they clashed with about 40 NPA rebels in the forested Sitio Ulayanon in Barangay Kalabugao at around 2 p.m. Saturday.
Recovered at the encounter site were two AK47 rifles, an AR18 rifle, an M1 Carbine rifle, an M4 rifle, an air gun, and 30 backpacks filled with documents and personal belongings.
