The Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People’s Army yesterday issued a statement claiming responsibility for the killing of another person they accused as a military informant in Brgy. Basak, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Ka JB Regalado, LPC spokesperson, reported that a certain Rene Torres was meted the death penalty on March 21, based on the decision of the revolutionary court.

Regalado alleged that Torres had served as an intelligence asset of the 11th Infantry Battalion since the 1990s, and also reported to the Guihulngan City Police Station.

The NPA earlier claimed responsibility for the killing also of two alleged military informants and a civilian in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, and Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, respectively.

Regalado called on other suspects who were linked to killings in Guihulngan City, to surrender to the nearest NPA unit in their areas, to clear their names.

He added that the NPA will surely run after those convicted by the revolutionary court.

Regalado, however, vehemently debunked insinuations that the NPA may have been behind in the robbery hold-up incident, where a family was robbed, by unidentified suspects, who were armed with M-16 and M-14 rifles in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City.

He said they are not operating in the area of Brgy. Ma-ao in Bago City, except the RPA-ABB ( Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade).

Regalado also challenged Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, to solve the series of crime incidents in Negros Occidental, and to investigate the killing of Bolbet Leyte in Calatrava, last month.

He claimed that the call of Castil for the NPA to surrender, was a diversionary tactic, and part of a black propaganda campaign against the CPP-NPA.
