CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – Select personnel of Public Information Office (PIO) of the Philippine Air Force joined other practitioners of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Department of National Defense (DND) in the 6th Public Affairs Officers Summit on September 21 to 22, 2017 at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Bringing together notable individuals who belong to the different PAOs, this year’s summit was not only an avenue for ideas, common interest, and confab; it was also designed to reaffirm their strong bond despite the pressing issues they face concerning their organization, public affairs (PA), and information operations.



During the opening ceremony, Director Arsenio R Andolong, MNSA, CESE, Chief of the Public Affairs Service of the DND reminded all PA practitioners about their role on information dissemination as well as the effective use of new media.
In a span of two days, subject matter experts were able to share fresh ideas that are useful in their day-to-day operations of the PAOs/PIOs in attendance.
The powerhouse speakers were:

• Major Jene Orense PA – Information Operations in Social Media
• Lt Col Rolando J Ong INF (GSC) PA (R) – Threats and Trends in Cybersecurity
• Colonel Edgard R Arevalo PN (M) (GSC) – Media Relations
• Cynthia Balana – Bridging the Gap Between Miltary and Media
• Lt Col Jo-ar Herrera PA – Public Information: The Marawi Experience
• Spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar – Information Management: National Defense & Security
• Ernesto C Abella – Crisis Communication in Public Affairs

The participants were also given time to clarify some issues that were discussed with the help of Professor Mario Antonio Lopez of the Asian Institute of Management who served as moderator.
Moreover, the AFP Spokesman, Brigadier General Restituto F Padilla Jr AFP, imparted some valuable lessons to the attendees.
