From the often pro-CPP Bicol Today (28): AFP troops of 2nd IB replace 9th IB to continue military operations in Masbate amidst ceasefire

MASBATE CITY – Among the provinces in Bicol region, Masbate is the highlight of new attacks among the civilians because of the presence of soldiers in interior barangays of municipalities, Cawayan and Dimasalang.

AFP troops from 9th IB and 2nd IB of the Philippine Army are fronting its Bayanihan Team Activities to penetrate in remote barangays for counter-insurgency program despite ceasefire period.



After their picket-caravan on October against militarization, Masbateños in Cawayan and Dimasalang hold camp-out from November 15 to November 20 in its respective municipalities to demand AFP troops to go back to their barracks. Among the provinces in Bicol, Masbate is the highly-militarized area.

According to Elvie Laurente, secretary of Cawayan Farmers Association (CAFAS), around 10 AFP troops of 2nd IB PA are currently staying in the hall of Sitio CTN, Barangay Cabo.

Basang basa ako sa ulan, nang malayo na sila sa akin pumunta ako sa bahay ng kapitbahay,” Laurente told Bicol Today. He said he saw the AFP troops at 7:00 am of November 23 when they visited his neighbor’s house.

On November 23, the 2nd IB PA deployed their troops in Sitio CTN, Brgy. Cabungahan, Sitio talisay, Brgy. Tuboran, Brgy. San Jose, Brgy. Palobandera, Brgy Libertad and barangay Cabungahan based on Masbate People’s Organization (MAPO) report.
