Two Philippine Navy officers are now in Japan to undergo training for the TC-90 aircraft which will be leased to the Philippines. The training begins today and will last until March 24, 2017, Kyodo News reported.

The two naval pilots are Navy Lieutenant Commanders Ryan Tumanda and Zyril Villacorta.

Training will take place at Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Tokushima Air Base in Tokushima Prefecture.

Training will be conducted by JMSDF Air Training Command’s 202 Air Training Squadron.

There will be three (3) batches of training which will train a total of six (6) Filipino naval pilots until November 2017. Each batch will be composed of 90 hours training on ground and 170 hours aerial training.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Implementation and Letter of Arrangement for the transfer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF)’s training aircraft TC-90s when President Duterte undertook an Official Visit to Japan from October 25 to 27.

Up to five TC-90s will be leased to the Philippines for maritime patrol and other security missions.
