From InterAksyon (Oct 28): LOOK | MPD goes tit for tat, files criminal raps vs activists over violent US embassy rally
The Manila Police District went tit for tat, filing criminal complaints against several activists over the violent dispersal of an October 19 rally at the US embassy that saw a patrol vehicle used to run over protesters.
Among those charged for assault, physical injuries and illegal assembly, according to earlier news reports, were Renato Reyes Jr., seceretary general of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, and Piya Macliing Malayao of the newly-formed national minorities alliance SANDUGO, who was among those run over by the vehicle driven by Police Officer 3 Franklin Kho.
Activists injured during the dispersal had jumped the gun on police, filing multiple criminal and administrative complaints including attempted murder, serious physical injuries and unlawful arrest, among others, before the Office of the Ombudsman against 10 police officers, including Kho and MPD deputy director Senior Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo, who was the ground commander during the incident.
