The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that it
will lift the red alert status once the country's new leaders are formally
elected.
This was stressed by Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla Monday.
"The full (red) alert status will be lifted (once) our
new leaders are elected," he added.
Pending that, full security measures will be implemented.
Effective Friday midnight, all units of the 125,000-strong
AFP has been placed on red alert for the coming May 9 elections.
It is implemented to ensure that the maximum number of
troops is available for possible contingencies.
Padilla said all units must be on stand-by on their military
camps for possible deployment.
He added that the AFP will be routinely conducting mustering
its troops in line with the "red alert" announcement.
This will be in effect until AFP high command and area
commanders have assessed otherwise.
