Combined forces of the 5th Special Forces and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) from Central Mindanao a high-ranking officer of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in a raid at around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night in Barangay Mother Kalanganan, Cotabato City.
5th SF Commanding Officer Col. Rannie Sevilla identified the arrested as Hasan Indal alyas Abu Azam, believed to be BIFF’s vice-chairman for internal affairs and its 4th Division Commander.
Abu Azam was nabbed on the basis of an arrest warrant.
Confiscated from him were one Baby Armalite, a caliber 45 pistol, and a grenade.
Abu Azam is now in the custody of the CIDG.
BIFF spokesman Abu Misrie Mama confirmed that Abu Azam was a high-ranking BIFF official, who was in the city due to his diabetes.
Mama also confirmed that a BIFF team leader was killed by the military in the continuing clearing operation in the town of Datu Salibo, Maguindanao.
The slain BIFF was identified as Abu Sopian.
