President Benigno Aquino III on Monday hit at Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos for the lawmaker’s continuous opposition against the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
Sa totoo lang, wala naman siyang iminumungkahing mas maganda, at sa pakiwari ko nga po ay wala siya talagang iminumungkahing iba—period,”Aquino said in his speech during the announcement of the Liberal Paty’s senatorial lineup at the Balay headquarters in Quezon City on Monday.
Aquino stressed that the proposed legislation would be the solution to resolve the decades-long conflict in Southern Philippines.
The BBL is the legal translation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro which the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine Government signed after more than 17 years of peace talks.
Aquino pointed out that the BBL remains “top agenda” of his administration.
According to Marcos the Malacañang’s version of the BBL has no chance of passing in both the Upper and Lower Houses of Congress because of constitutional infirmities.
He then crafted a substitute bill to assure that the proposed measure for the Bangsamoro is constitutional.
Aquino had earlier expressed willingness to support the Marcos’ substitute bill only if it is proven better than the original version.
