Units of the 10th Infantry Division are now pursuing the New
People's Army (NPA) band who conducted a series of improvised explosive device
(IED) attacks in Compostela town, Compostela

Capt. Rhyan B. Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public
affairs office chief, said the attacks were aimed at stopping the National
Serbisyo Caravan held at Sitio Mambusao, Barangay Ngan, of the above-mentioned
locality.
The series of IED attacks wounded one soldier.
Batchar said the October 8's IED attack took place 11 p.m.
along the highway at Purok 6, Barangay Colapogon.
It targeted the truck of the Service Support Battalion which
delivered the fuel of vehicles and helicopters used during the National
Serbisyo Caravan.
A soldier was slightly wounded by splinters of the IED which
exploded after the Army truck had already passed.
Two unexploded IEDs were also recovered by militiamen along
the highway in Barangay Osmeña in the early morning of October 9.
These IEDs were placed without regard to the safety and
well-being of the people, both from the different government agencies and the
local residents who were beneficiaries of the caravan who passed through the
said road.
The National Serbisyo Caravan was an initiative of the
Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region 11 supported
by the national government through the "Whole of Nation Initiative"
Task Force under the Office of the President.
The caravan aims to converge the delivery of services of the
different government agencies in remote and impoverished communities.
The people of Compostela were unshaken by the incident as
some 8,000 people benefited from the National Serbisyo Caravan.
The participating agencies provided services such as medical
and dental consultations and treatment, tilapia fingerlings dispersal, various
livelihood projects, rural workers orientation, legal services, agrarian legal
service, issuance of police clearance, distribution of seedlings, free haircut,
distribution of school supplies and many more.
