Showing appreciation for the valor and sacrifice showed by
the fallen Special Action Force (SAF) in the Maguindanao encounter on Jan. 25,
8th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Jet B. Velarmino spearheaded the
honor and wreath-laying ceremonies for the deceased police officers Thursday.
This event took place at the Bohol Provincial Police Office
at Camp Francisco Dagohoy, Tagbilaran
City , 8th Infantry
Division spokesperson Major Amado Gutierrez said.
Forty-four SAF men were killed in the mission to neutralize
Malaysian terror bomber Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan in Mamasapano town,
Maguindanao on Jan. 25.
During the wreath-laying, Velarmino led the offering of
prayers, and he also expressed his sympathy and condolence to the grieving
families and comrades of the fallen SAF men.
Present during the activity was PNP Director, Senior Supt.
Dennis Palo Agustin who led the PNP troops in honoring the fallen “SAF 44”,
whom Velarmino also acknowledged for the warm welcome accorded to him and his
party.
Velarmino also paid courtesy calls to Hon. Edgardo Migriño
Chatto, Governor of Bohol and Hon. John Gesnell B. Yap, Mayor of Tagbilaran
City, and impressed upon them his full support to their respective plans and
programs intended to improve the well-being of their constituents.
The working visit was in relation to the directive that the
province is now part of the 8th Infantry Division area of responsibility
effective Jan. 1, per directive of Central Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines .
“I am looking forward to work with the PNP and the LGUs of
Bohol to preserve and sustain the gains already achieved as it is already
declared as an ‘Insurgency
Free Province ’,
where peace and progress is already being enjoyed by the Boholanons,” he
concluded.
