From the Philippine Information Agency (Nov 29): ARAW Contingent to leave Leyte soon
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte --- The Republic of Korea (ROK) Joint Support Group Philippines or the Araw Contingent is due to leave the Province of Leyte on December 17, 2014.
This was announced by Maj. Kwon Doo Young, Chief of Public Affairs (ARAW Contingent) during a press conference held Friday at Ocho Grill, Tacloban City.
The ROK Contingent was established on December 9, 2013. Barely three weeks of preparatory period, the first batch was deployed in Leyte where three municipalities were chosen to be the areas of operation in the rehabilitation such as Palo, Tanauan and Tolosa, Leyte.
This was made after considering the purpose of dispatch, capability of the engineering element and accessibility of the location.
Initial deployment was made last December 2013. However, the recovery and rehabilitation operations officially started last January 3, 2014.
Since its arrival, various activities were conducted by the ARAW contingent including rehabilitation of public facilities, debris clearing, medical and dental treatment, fumigation, and feeding, among others.
The Araw Contingent is the first contingent to be deployed outside South Korea as a response to a request from a calamity-stricken area.
