Bandit group leader killed in encounter with Philippine Marines

From GMA News (Nov 6): Bandit group leader killed in encounter with Philippine Marines

A leader of a bandit group was killed in an encounter with Philippine Marines Wednesday morning in Sultan Kudarat province, the Philippine Navy said.

State-run Philippines News Agency reported that Philippine Navy spokesman Col. Edgard Arevalo identified the slain leader as Ibrahim Dayao a.k.a. "King Cobra."

Arevalo said the Navy's Marine Special Operations Platoon encountered Dayao and a group of heavily armed men in Palimbang town at 6:23 a.m. He said the Marines were conducting "peace and development operations" at the time.

Arevalo said Dayao's group has been linked to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front units operating in Palimbang town in Sultan Kudarat.

Recovered from the scene were an M-14 rifle and ammunition; an AK-47; a rifle grenade; two-way radios; camouflage ammunition bearing equipment; military camouflage uniforms; and a military-issued backpack.
