Kidnappers free Zambo businesswoman

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 25): Kidnappers free Zambo businesswoman

Kidnappers believed to have ties with the Abu Sayyaf Brigands have released a Zamboangueña businesswoman following series of negotiations, a former government official disclosed Wednesday.

Former Basilan Vice-Gov. Alrasheed Sakkalahul said the businesswoman, Sabrina Voon, 28, was freed noontime Wednesday at a private wharf in Barangay Baliwasan, west of this city.

Voon was seized by six gunmen who barged into her residence on the evening of February 19, this year, in Barangay Mercedes, 12.75 kilometers east of this city.

Sakkalahul said Voon’s release came after negotiations he facilitated between the families and the Basilan-based kidnappers upon the request of the family of the victim.

However, Sakkalahul said he has no idea whether or not the family of Voon paid ransom in exchange for the release of the victim.

Information gathered that Voon was met by her family upon her release.
