COTABATO CITY -- Several 81-millimeter mortar rounds were found on the busy corner of Governor Gutierrez Avenue and Sinsuat Avenue near a known food chain here past 9 p.m. Friday.
Initial information from Cotabato City Police Director Rollen Balquin said some street children found the rounds inside a carton.
The children even played with them, alarming some residents who saw them.
Members of the Philippine Marines immediately went to the site to check on the report.
Balquin said he believes the rounds have been in the area for a long time before they were found.

See Philippine News Agency report entitled "Drugstore guard recovers IED in Cotabato City commercial district." The PNA report describes the mortar round as an "IED" that was complete with "accessories" but lacked an unnamed key component.
