From the Mindanao Examiner blog site (Jan 24): Rebels raid house of Zamboanga village chieftain
New People’s Army rebels raided the house of a village official in San Miguel town in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines, police said.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said some 40 rebels swooped down late Thursday in the house owned by Dioscoro Lauranilla, the village chieftain of Calube, and looted the place.
Lauranilla’s .45-caliber pistol was also taken by the rebels before fleeing under cover of darkness.
Huesca did not say whether the official or any of his family members was in the house at the time of the raid. There was no immediate statement from Lauranilla’s family about the raid.
The NPA is fighting for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country.
