Several hundred people, mostly peasants and fisherfolk, from Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon marched to Mendiola last July 1 to condemn the Marcos regime for the suffering and anti-people policies of the past two years. They blamed the regime for the worsening economic crisis being suffered by the Filipino people. In the past two years, the peasants mainly have faced the worsening rice crisis, high food prices, and the further deterioration of the agricultural sector.
Similar actions and farm protests were held by farmers and groups in Ilocos, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Central Visayas, Panay and Negros.
