MANILA – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. has ordered the inclusion of Philippine flag patches in battle dress uniforms of Filipino soldiers to highlight the military's role in upholding the country's sovereign rights and territorial integrity.

In a statement Thursday night, Brawner said this initiative aims to reinforce patriotism and solidarity as a visible reminder of the AFP's commitment to upholding Philippine sovereign rights and territorial integrity.

"As chief of staff, I have authorized all members of the AFP to wear our flag on our right arm," he said.

Formerly, Philippine flag patches are only worn by AFP personnel when conducting exercises with foreign military counterparts, such as the "Balikatan," and when abroad.

"This aligns with the broader efforts of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to foster national pride and unity among Filipinos," AFP public affairs office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said.

Meanwhile, the AFP also launched the "Mulat" communication plan for the West Philippine Sea that aims to fight misinformation on the issue.

Brawner said "Mulat," which means "awakened” in Filipino, seeks to bolster transparency, counter disinformation, and enhance public awareness regarding the Philippines' rights and interests in the region.

He noted that by enhancing public awareness and rallying patriotic sentiment, the plan would unite Filipinos in advocating for the nation’s interests and contributing to a more resilient Philippines.

The main point of the Communication Plan is the theme "Our Seas, Our Rights, Our Future," reflecting the AFP's commitment to engaging all stakeholders in defending and preserving Philippine waters.
