CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The CPP NPA Terrorists (CNTs) suffered another blow after government troops intercepted their war materiel in an Army-PNP joint law enforcement operation on Friday evening at Brgy Pianing, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

Combined elements of the 65th Infantry Battalion, the 75th Infantry Battalion, the Butuan City Police Office Station 4 (BCPS4) and the Butuan City Mobile Force Company (BCMFC) conducted joint checkpoint operations and consequently confiscated 4,800 pieces of 7.62mm (AK 47) of live ammunitions, two (2) rifle grenades and three (3) motorcycles.

Also apprehended were three (3) male individuals believed to be couriers of RSDG, NEMRC namely, Rolando Aque Dagium, 34 yrs old, married and a resident of P4, San Roque, Sibagat, ADS; Ferdinand Aque Dagium, 27 yrs old, married, and a Brgy Kagawad of P4, San Roques, Sibagat, ADS; Marvin Pepito Merencillo, 26 yrs old, and a resident of P1, Brgy Mt Ararat Bayugan City, ADS.

The apprehended persons and confiscated war materiel were brought to BCPS4 for proper disposition and filling of appropriate criminal cases.

On the other hand, an encounter ensued between the troops of 30th Infantry Battalion under Lt. Col. Ryan Charles Callanta and more or less 10 CNTs of SYP Platun 16C1, GF16, NEMRC under Roel T Neniel alias “Jacob” at the mountainous area of Sitio Suoton, Brgy Cagdianao, Claver, Surigao del Norte on September 2, 2021 resulting in the death of one (1) CNT and the capture of three (3) high powered firearms and other war materiel.

Maj. Gen. Romeo S Brawner Jr, Commander of 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division confirmed the identity of the slain NPA as alias “Asyong”, the Vice Platoon Commander and Political Officer of SYP Platun, 16C1, Guerilla Front 16, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (SYP16C1, GF16, NEMRC).

In a 15-minute firefight, the government troops killed the said CNT leader and captured two (2) AK47 Rifles, one (1) M14 rifle, one (1) bandolier, two (2) AK47 magazines, seven (7) M14 magazines with ammunitions, and assorted medicines.

“We offer our sympathies to the families of the dead NPA. Another life is lost because the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) chose to advance their own agenda thru violence. We are saddened every time a fellow Filipino die because they were deceived by the futile ideology, however, we are committed to perform our mandate and end this insurgency. We will not let peace spoilers hamper the government’s efforts, we need to protect the government’s development initiatives for the sustainable livelihood for our people”, Maj. Gen. Brawner said.

It can also be recalled that last August 28, 2021, troops of 58IB under the operational control of 402nd Infantry Brigade, 4ID clashed against more or less ten (10) CNTs believed to be armed elements of Sub Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG) MTJ Eagles of the North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) at vicinity Talupa, So. Dumagook, Brgy. Lawaan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

A 25 minute firefight resulted in the seizure of two (2) M16 Rifles and one (1) M14 Rifle and the death of a CNT member identified as Aldo Cahinlo Higyawan, alias Ramon, a member of Platoon Ryan, SRC1, NCMRC, 38 years old, and a resident of Purok 1, Barangay San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon.

Maj. Gen. Brawner stressed that the government is sincere and serious in providing better opportunities and avenues for reconciliation to those who have realized the futility of their armed struggle. He called on the remaining CTG members to give up the armed struggle, return to the peaceful path and avail of the E-CLIP so they can start new lives with their families.

“We offer these victories to our people, who for the longest time have wanted to live peaceful lives in developed communities. We will not stop here, we shall pursue the CTG leaders and its armed groups until they become inconsequential and our people and the communities as a whole will be free from the exploitation and threat of the CTG”, Maj. Gen. Brawner Jr said.
