The Philippine National Police (PNP)'s capability to respond
to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats got a much-needed
boost following the donation of the US government of CBRNE equipment.
The CBRNE donations consists of four complete sets of Second
Line Defense (SLD) Mobile Detection System (MDS) vans and other equipment.
These were donated by the United States Department of Energy
(US-DOE) through its National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The items were formally turned over to the PNP Monday during
ceremonies in Camp Crame , Quezon
City .
PNP chief Director General Ricardo C. Marquez received the
donation from Michael S. Klecheski, Deputy Chief of Mission ,
US Embassy Manila through the SLD Program between the
PNP and US-DOE.
“This event is a testament of our shared commitment, to
ensure smooth and successful hosting by the Philippine Government of the 2015
Asia Pacific Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila to be attended by heads of
state from 21 economies and other delegates” Marquez said.
Other donations include four Mercedez Benz Sprinter vans
with installed detector module kits, four sets of office accessories and
traffic control safety equipment, four radiation detection backpacks and
associated accessories, 12 Radiation Pager personal radiation detectors, four
FLIR Systems identiFINDER 2 NG Radioactive Isotope Devices (RIIDs), four
Rapiscan PRM-470 CG survey meters, two MDS spare parts kits, one replacement
laptop, three SLD maintenance kits, and one SLD source kit.
“The arrival of four MDS vans with its accessories
contributes to our efforts in the PNP to ensure the safety and security of all
delegates and participants. I do hope that with this additional mobility and
operational effectiveness, our personnel will be able to perform their duties
effectively and efficiently in maintaining peace and order and security before,
during and after the conduct of APEC Summit Leaders Meeting,” the PNP chief
stressed.
