The Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has deployed 196 policemen to augment the security forces here, officials said.
Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr., PRO-9 director, said the additional forces have been placed under the command of the Zamboanga City Police Office’s (ZCPO) Station 11, which has jurisdiction over the city proper and its periphery.
Cambay said the deployment of additional police personnel is part of security measures to thwart terror attacks.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), disclosed that intelligence reports indicated that three suicide bombers have escaped from the province of Sulu following the two successive bombings in downtown Jolo on August 24 that killed 10 people and injured dozens of others.
She said the terrorists were reportedly planning to carry out bombings here and in other parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Meanwhile, Maj. Elmer Solon, ZCPO’s Station 11 chief, on Saturday urged the public to remain calm but vigilant to assist the security forces in guarding the city.
