Ex-rebels receive livelihood starter kits

From the Mindanao Times (Sep 15, 2020): Ex-rebels receive livelihood starter kits (BY RHODA GRACE SARON)

THE Department of Trade and Industry distributed 29 livelihood starter kits to former rebels in Purok 10, South Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon last week.

Capt Norven Jay Garcia, Civil Military Operation officer of the 88th Infantry Battalion whose unit collaborated with the national agency in distributing the kits at its headquarters, said that its kit was worth P8,000.

Garcia said the activity was part of the “Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa,” a livelihood and entrepreneurship program of the department. The program is part of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

Among those that were distributed were starter kits for rice trading, parlor and barber shop, carenderia, carpentry and electronic loading.

On September 4, 40 former rebels also received their starter kits.

Director Eriberto A. Taban-ud Jr, DTI-Bukidnon, said, “We in DTI encourage you to do business because in business, there is always a good chance to succeed as long as we manage it properly. The government, through its Whole of Nation Approach, is always ready to help you not just the DTI but all government agencies.”

One former rebel expressed his gratitude for the assistance as it would help him and the others in starting their livelihood activities.
