COTABATO CITY, July 28 (PIA) – The 6th Infantry Kampilan Division of the Philippine Army recognized the efforts of the Local Government Unit of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao in bringing members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) to the fold of the law.
This, as eight members of the Karialan Faction led by Ibrahim Guno of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) yielded to authorities and surrendered their assorted firearms.
In a ceremony yesterday, 6ID and Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) Commander Major General Diosdado Carreon lauded the LGU’s efforts in ending local insurgency.
“I would like to congratulate Mayor Sindatok, maraming salamat. Actually, itong pagbalik-loob nila hindi magagawa basta-basta ng security forces kung walang effort ng local officials. Yung local officials ang mahalaga dito sa mga ganitong bagay. We work hand in hand with the LGUs sa mga ganitong programa,” Carreon said.
The surrenderees will be given financial support, legal assistance, and livelihood as part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) of the government. Also, the former rebels received an initial assistance worth P200, 000 pesos from LGU Datu Saudi, Ampatuan.
Meanwhile, Datu Saudi Ampatuan Municipal Mayor Edris Sintadok expressed his gratitude to the 6ID for being an instrument of peace in their municipality. He also emphasized the LGU’s support to initiatives promoting peace and order in communities. (LTBolongon-PIA Cotabato City)
