The voluntary drug test on Saturday is only the latest taken under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. Other branches of military service, the civilian police force, and even different government agencies have taken tests ate different times.
Duterte’s main promises in the 2016 campaign include a strong campaign against illegal drugs, crime, and corruption. The AFP’s Procurement Service, Command and General Staff College, and the Headquarters Service Command, all underwent drug tests recently. All units are “drug-free,” according to the AFP.
Buan was awarded the Medal of Valor – the highest military honor – for risking his life during a one hour and a half ecnounter against Abu Sayyaf members in Lantawan, Basilan on April 8, 2004.
