President Benigno Simeon Aquino III is visiting on Wednesday
the soldiers who were wounded in the latest clash against the Abu Sayyaf
bandits in Basilan province.
Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom)
information officer, disclosed that the President will meet top Westmincom
officials upon arrival here.
Tan said is also expected to visit the wake of the fallen
soldiers to extend sympathy to the bereaved families.
He said the Office of the President had been coordinating
with for the visit after President Aquino was informed of the intense fire
fight against the Abu Sayyaf brigands in Basilan.
Eighteen soldiers were killed while 56 others were wounded
in a 10-hour intense fire fight last Saturday in Sitio Bayoko, Barangay
Baguindan, Basilan.
Most of the wounded soldiers were admitted in two military
hospitals while some in private hospitals in this city.
The Philippine Army on Tuesday announced it has released
PHP3.2 million special financial assistance for the families of the 18 soldiers
killed in the Basilan fire fight.
