A 75-year-old former member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit-turned barangay tanod chief was shot dead Sunday by five men in Purok 2 in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Alfonso Dulla, a barangay tanod chief of Basak, Cauayan, succumbed to multiple gunshot would died on the spot, police said.
Senior Inspector Ramil Robles, Cauayan deputy police chief, said yesterday that Dulla was on his routine walking exercise, when he was followed and shot in the back by one of the five men.
Dulla, who had a .45 caliber pistol, tried to fight back. But he was disarmed by the four other men, who also shot him in the stomach.
Not contented with that, Robles said, the suspects also shot Dulla with his own gun in the face, with the bullet exiting from his head. Robles said they are still trying to verify claims that his death had been perpetrated by New People’s Army rebels, or triggered by personal grudges.
He, however, said that they were told by the family of Dulla that the victim had no enemies.
