MAWAB, Davao de Oro – Peace Messages from different stakeholders dominated the 125th Philippine Army Anniversary Peace Concert – Mindanao Leg held at Robinsons Place, Tagum City on March 12, 2022. Residents of Tagum City and nearby municipalities from all walks of life listened to these messages.
Agila Division Commander, Major General Nolasco A Mempin during his speech believes that we can find the solution to our insurgency problems through good governance, unity, and transparency.
“We can now see the advantage of having a collective effort in addressing the problem of insurgency through the Whole-of-nation approach under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict,” MGen Mempin added.
Former Guerilla Front 55 Secretary Ariane Jane “Ka Marikit” Ramos for her part said that their participation in ending the local communist insurgency is a responsibility to the Filipino people who have been the victims of a useless war.
“I wholeheartedly put my life into advancing the people’s democratic revolution of the CPP-NPA-NDFP, why? Because they taught us that this is the only solution in achieving peace, justice, and equality. But I was wrong,” Marikit said.
“Our unity for tonight’s event is a manifestation that we all understood what the root cause of insurgency is. It is not just about the radicalization of an individual but it is the political, economic, and social injustices,” Marikit added.
Talaingod Davao Del Norte’s Indigenous People Mandatory Representative Datu Andigao Agay with its IP Youth leader Bae Anna Jessamae Crisostomo also delivered their peace messages thanking the Agila Division’s efforts in advancing their lives towards sustainable and peaceful communities.
“NTF-ELCAC was not created to kill but instead created a whole of nation approach with all the government entities on board, not only to terminate insurgency but also to help the indigenous people in our ancestral domains. To our soldiers, you are our heroes. Thank you for showing us the true light because for 50 years we have only seen darkness and bloodshed and we cannot thank you enough for showing us the light,” Bae Anna said.
Furthermore, vlogger-influencer Becoming Filipino Kyle “Kulas” Jennermann, as one of the guests of the peace concert shared his beautiful experience of Mindanao and its people when he set his foot in the island last 2013.
“People here showed me something – beauty. I went all around Mindanao, this positive life journey that I have been on never would have been existed if people didn’t implant positive thoughts and experiences in me. Extremism wins when we give up believing that people can be good and there are a lot of good things here in Mindanao,” Kulas added.
Moreover, peace messages from the different focal leaders of the RTF-ELCAC, youth leaders, the academe, and local chief executives from the areas of 1st, 4th, 6th, and 11th Infantry Divisions were played during the event. This Philippine Army’s Infantry Divisions (ID) are deployed all over Mindanao. 6th ID in Maguindanao, 1st ID in Zamboanga del Sur, 4th ID in Cagayan de Oro City, and 11th ID in Jolo, Sulu.
On March 22, 2022, the Philippine Army will celebrate its 125th founding anniversary marking another milestone in its continuing purpose of serving the people and securing the land.
A ceremonial lighting of the torch was also conducted with the stakeholders and partners during the event as a symbol of hope, unity, and triumph over peace spoilers in the country.
Aside from the Peace Concert, static displays on Philippine Army’s capabilities such as artillery, mechanized, and infantry capabilities were also showcased by the Agila Troopers.
