CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Two persons were killed while three others were hurt as a clan war erupted between two families in Datu Montawal town on Tuesday, Army and police officials here reported.
The warring families locked in a long-standing dispute involved those of Noah Abel and Dataya Bacana, both of Barangay Nabundas in the municipality.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division chief, said he has ordered the deployment of military peacekeeping forces in Nabundas.
“I have also requested local religious leaders and officials to help settle the problem,” Uy said.
Military reports said both families have members linked to local Moro fronts.
Brig. Gen. Eden Ugale, police director for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said the families are fighting over control of vast tracts of land in the area.
“There are dead and wounded from both sides,” he said.
Ugale has also directed the Maguindanao provincial police to help the local police separate the warring clans to avoid the displacement of civilians.
As of Wednesday morning, pockets of gunfire could still be heard from the Nabundas area.
