From Kalinaw News (May 30, 2021): Philippine Army partners with GMA Kapuso foundation in building classrooms for IPs in Cagayan
Troops from the Philippine Army’s 5th Infantry Division, along with GMA’s Kapuso foundation, attended the ground breaking ceremony for a classroom construction project in Calassitan Elementary School, Sto. Nino, Cagayan.
Together with the 501st Infrantry Brigade, 17th Infantry Battalion, 51st Engineer Brigade, and the 513 Engineer Combat Battalion, the Philippine Army commits to provide support to the project by offering its resources for the transportation of materials, its personnel to provide security, technical and engineering aspects for the building of classrooms until its completion.
The classroom would be the second home and learning ground for the Indigenous youths of the Agta tribe that make up 30% of the school’s population.
The classroom construction project sparked when the New Zealand embassy awarded 800,000php to GMA’s Kapuso foundation as a gesture of support for the heavily affected community during the Ulysses Typhoon last year.
