BALER, Aurora — Military and police troops recovered ammunition and leftist paraphernalia in a lair abandoned by alleged members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Barangay Calabasa, Gabaldon town in Nueva Ecija.
The recovery was the result of joint operations conducted Sunday by the Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company/Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (PMFC-NEPPO), and intelligence operatives, after receiving information from civilian tipsters.
Police Lt. Col. Dennis Wenceslao, commander of the 1st PMFC-NEPPO, said the recovered firearms and personal belongings of the rebels include 22 pieces of M203 grenade launcher ammunition, 90 pieces of 60-caliber ammunition, two pieces of empty shell of M203 grenade launcher, one piece of 81 mm mortar, one magazine assembly of AK47, a tactical bandolier vest, improvised explosive device (IED) cord, and a backpack.
Police Lt. Col. Wenceslao attributed the discovery to the civilian informants, who have been providing the troops with vital information.
“This is also part of our internal security operation,” he added.
The recovered items are presently under the custody of the 1st PMFC-NEPPO.
The CPP-NPA, which has been waging a decades-long war against the government, is considered a terrorist organization by the Philippines, the United States and the European Union.
