From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Nov 3): PEACE EFFORTS | 8 Lumad NPA’s Surrender in Sultan Kudarat
SEN NINOY AQUINO, Sultan Kudarat (DWDD) – Eight Lumad members of the New People’s Army surrender to military forces in Sultan Kudarat at 10:00am yesterday.
Captain Rogelio Agustin Jr., the Commanding Officer of the Charlie Company, 33rd Infantry Battalion, said that the surrenderees turned over 2 M16A1 Assault Rifles and 2 large improvised bombs during a simple rite that was held in a forested area of Kuden village of this town.
“They were very tired and hungry after months of evading our patrols in the forests. It is fortunate that they heard about the good stories about the other rebels who had surrendered to our unit in the past months,” said Agustin.
1Lt John Jamora, the Commanding Officer of Alpha Company, revealed that Ka Bobby and Ka Jimboy, the leaders of Platoon Cloudphone who surrendered in September 2017, facilitated the negotiations with their former subordinates. Michael Galing, 37, one of the surrenderees, stated that he had learned about the ongoing efforts of the local government to resolve their community problems.
“Mayor Randy Ecija Jr and the Army have extended their assistance to the Manobo tribe. We now believe that the government can solve our problems such as the land grabbing in our ancestral lands,” he said.
As of today, 60 NPA members have already surrendered to the Philippine Army.
The current batch of surrenderees was facilitated by different units and offices including the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion, 26th Military Intelligence Company, Local Government Unit of Sen Ninoy Aquino and the PNP station of Sen Ninoy Aquino town. AES/ALS
