Duterte orders P.5-B for wounded soldiers

From the Mindanao Times (Nov 3): Duterte orders P.5-B for wounded soldiers

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the release of P500 million for the care of the soldiers wounded in the battle of Marawi City.

Duterte arrived Tuesday night at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport here after a two-day visit in Tokyo, Japan.

The President ordered the fast-tracking of the release of the funds, which would go into the medicine and rehabilitation of the wounded personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who fought during the siege that lasted for five months.

He added that the wounded, especially those permanently debilitate, would be prioritized in the government’s housing program.

“They will have their houses built at once, and I am releasing P500 million for the medicines. Ayaw kong magdaan ng maraming documents.” Duterte said, as he wanted to immediately give the contract to the lowest bidder.

Meanwhile, President Duterte said he was supportive of local peace efforts by local government units, particularly the one initiated by his daughter, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in his hometown.

“Magsurrender na lang kayo ngayon at ibaba ninyo ang mga baril… may trabaho kayong naghihintay (Surrender now, lay down your arms, Job is waiting for you),” Duterte said.

According to the President, he would consider to include the surrendered members of the New People’s Army into the housing programs under the NHA.

“I am encouraging her,” Duterte said of his daughter.

“To the NPA, do not take it so badly. Walang pilitan ito (We are not forcing it),” Duterte addressed the rebel group about their members who want to stop fighting.

“You’re always invited to go back mainstream, balik kayo dito, aalagaan ko kayo (Return to us, I will take care of you). Eventually, just to prepare you into mainstream society.”
