Stiff sanctions await military personnel caught involved in
illegal drugs, either as a user or distributor, incoming Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya said.
"Don't use illegal drugs," he warned the troops.
Visaya stressed that the AFP will very be strict on this
matter.
Aside from defeating the Abu Sayyaf Group menace and helping
the Philippine National Police (PNP) on its law enforcement operations, the
incoming AFP chief said President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, during their meeting
in Davao City , ordered him to also focus on the
upcoming nationwide anti-illegal drug campaign, hence, the warning.
He made this statement Monday during his visit to the Pili,
Camarines-based 9th Infantry Division where he formally bid the unit goodbye as
Southern Luzon Command chief.
Visaya is scheduled to take over the 120,000-strong AFP on
July 1.
