4,000 cops, security forces deployed for Araw ng Dabaw

From the Mindanao Times (Mar 15): 4,000 cops, security forces deployed for Araw ng Dabaw

THE DAVAO City Police Office yesterday tightened security measures as around 4,000 personnel will ensure the safety of the revelers for the highlight activity of the 76th Araw nang Dabaw this Wednesday.

“We will be on double alert especially in checkpoints and we would like to ask the cooperation of everyone especially on the prohibited items,” city police director, Sr. Supt. Vicente D. Danao Jr., said in an interview yesterday.

Just like in previous celebrations, backpacks and canisters are prohibited from the activity areas.

“We will be strictly implementing ‘stop, frisk and search method’  so my advice is to only bring bags that will allow us to easily look inside,” he added.

Danao said they will implement random checkpoints and frisking even if they have not received any intel about any terror threat this week.

“We encourage everyone  to please join the different festivities,” he said.

City spokesperson, Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz, in an interview said K9 units, members of the Technical Support Platoon, personnel from headquarters, along with other force multiplers, will also help guard the city against terrorists and criminals.

Driz said 200 personnel from the Regional Public Safety Battalion have already been deployed since last week.

“We will make sure no one can sneak past us and no untoward incident will occur,” she added.

In a separate interview, Col. Cristobal Zaragoza, commander of Task Force Davao, said all their personnel are prepared to serve as backup force for the police.

The police and military remained on a full alert status after a series of explosion and the recovery of improvised explosive devices in neighboring areas. Driz said the high alert status will remain until after the election period.
