CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City (DWDD) – Two NPAs believed to be involved in extortion activities to contractors and other businesses were arrested by joint elements of the 85th Infantry Battalion and PNP Quezon Public Safety Company in Barangay Cagsiay 2, Mauban of Quezon Province on February 9, 2016.
201st Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Rhoderick M. Parayno identified the two suspects as Alex Perdiguera and Mark Ryan Relao Asores. He said that a caliber .45 pistol in their possession was recovered during the arrest.
Alex Perdiguera y Mendoza a.k.a. Daniel / Abil is a resident of Ibabang Pulo, Pagbilao, Quezon while Mark Ryan Relao Asores a.k.a David is from Brgy San Jose, San Pablo, Laguna. Both were positive identified by construction workers as the ones who burned the backhoe. The two NPA extortionists are now in the custody of the PNP for filing of appropriate charges.
Last November 2015, the NPAs burned a backhoe when contractors did not give in to their demands.
“The NPA sent extortion letters again to contractors and businessmen but this time they were asking a higher fees,” said BGen Parayno. This abuse triggered them to report it to the 201st Infantry Brigade. With the cooperation and information coming from various contractors, businessmen and the locals in the area, the 201st Infantry Brigade with the PNP- Quezon Public Safety Company launched an operation targeting the NPA extortion group which led to the arrest of the two NPAs. “These (extortion and arson) are oppressive acts of the NPA against the people. Apart from disturbing the peace and affecting development efforts in the countryside, ” said BGen Rhoderick M Parayno. PAO SOLCOM / MCAG
