New People’s Army rebels on Sunday morning shot dead a
former Philippine Army soldier in Barangay Mahayahay, Cawayan, Masbate , an Army officer said Monday.
Army Captain Marjorie Panesa, public affairs chief of the
9th Infantry Division, identified the victim as Rehuel Suson, 54, a former Army
soldier and currently employed as a security guard of a communication cell site
in the town.
Panesa said in a text message that the victim was on board
his motorcycle and was on his way home to Bangay Mactan at about 7:30 a.m. when
he was waylaid by six NPA members.
Suson sustained fatal gunshot wounds in various parts of his
body, killing him instantly.
Town police led by Insp. Randy Bachiller immediately
responded and recovered the body of the slain security guard.
Police investigators are still determining the motive for
the killing while the NPA guerrilla unit in Masbate
has yet to issue a statement admitting the killing of Suson.
