The City Council’s Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Cooperative on Thursday commended the elements of the army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade for initiating a livelihood project among the fishermen in the city’s Port Area here.

City Councilor Edna Dahino, committee chairperson, cited the deployment of the brigade’s Bayanihan Alert for Peace and Development team in the coastal village of Mabacalan in the city’s Port Area for also helping maintain the peace and order in the area.

Dahino said that the Army’s Bayanihan team held a six-month exposure in the coastal village where they held a seminar training on food processing and taught the fishermen to process sardines to augment their source of livelihood.

She said that the presence of the Army’s Bayanihan team also ensures the maintenance of peace and order in the Port Area which drew commendation among local residents and the local government unit there.

“We want to see more of this kind in the city where the presence of the military ensures hope and peace,” Dahino said.

As a member of the city council’s committee on police, fire, and public safety, Dahino also expressed her gratitude to the members of the Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade for a job well done during the culmination of the program through a peace caravan last Friday.

She encouraged the military to replicate what they attained in the Macabalan Port Area here in other areas in the country to in order to fully regain the trust and confidence of the people toward the military as protector of the community and the people.
