From the Philippine Navy Website (Nov 30): Marine Martial Arts
The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) regularly conducts its martial arts
proficiency exercise to enhance the Corps’s widely-practiced combat technique
particularly useful during close combat battles. This proficiency-based practice
was presented last November 23, 2012 by some of the PMC personnel in their
combat uniforms. Their simultaneous demonstration performance with one group
using long blades and another using knifes on their capabilities was held at BNS
Grandstand, Bonifacio Naval Station (BNS), Fort Bonifacio, Tagiug
City.
The PMC Martial Arts, also known as Pekiti Tirsia Kali, is a
Filipino close quarter fighting system that focuses on edged weapons. It
encompasses a wide range of traditional weapons and tactics strategy based on
mobility, counterattacking and triangular movement and clearly comes from the
era when it was common for Filipino men to carry swords and knives. The
Philippine Force Recon Marines have trained US special operations forces and
other combat units in close-quarters combat, demonstrating the effectiveness of
the system.
